CSU Housing and Dining and the RMMP Card

If you’re attending Colorado State University as a Freshman the CSU housing and dining meal plan gets you ready for on-campus life.  It covers you when you are eating in the on-campus dining halls.  CSU Housing and Dining does a nice job with the dining halls, but as most upper-classmen will tell you cafeteria food gets old day after day.  A wise parent also knows that you should have your student covered for off-campus meals for the weekends too. This is where the Rocky Mountain Meal Plan (RMMP) for students comes in. It supplements the CSU meal plan, offering a number of benefits too.GirlHoldingID web CSU Housing and Dining

CSU Housing and Dining benefits for the RMMP Cardholder:

 1. You get a 10% discount on all purchases, including textbooks at The Rams Book Store every day. This is because the card acts as the store’s preferred customer card.

2. You save a lot of money through the exclusive cardholder deals, coupons and discounts.

3. You enjoy convenience through the participating merchants delivery, take out, or dine in options.

4. The card provides the leeway to have a customized meal plan or to select from the suggested meal plan options.

5. You can have a variety of cuisine available at more than 40 area favorite restaurants.

6. Parents are assured that “food money” really goes where it is intended to be spent. Widely accepted Mastercard and Visa purchases can easily be abused by paying for undesirable purchases such as:  Alcoholic beverages, tattoos and unauthorized weekend getaways.  The RMMP is not accepted for the purchase of alcoholic beverages.  Meals are not wasted since account balances are carried over from one semester to another.

7. Online monitoring and management of transactions and accounts are one of the convenient features of the RMMP. Adding funds to the student’s accounts are made possible through the “Recurring Allowance” feature.

8. When the balance falls below $30.00, parents will receive automatic low balance email alerts.

9. Students are helped to develop financial responsibility. Through the RMMP, students will gain knowledge on how to budget the food money and at the same time, avoid costly ATM fees and Bank interest.

Acquiring an education nowadays is indeed very expensive. It is a must that parents and students work together in order to come up with ideas that help them carefully manage their money. A CSU Housing and Dining plan supplemented with an RMMP card, is a perfect solution to help set the busy CSU Student up for success.

The Be Bold Colorado State University campaign has officially kicked off.  The campaign is not only for those who are already supportive of the University’s desire to build a new stadium, but also for those who need more information to understand the reasoning behind it.  I should disclose that being a business that stands to directly benefit from a new stadium, I am in support of a new stadium.  If this was not the case however, I would still be very much in support of building a new stadium for several reasons.

To understand collegiate athletics you simply need to study the haves and the have nots.  What you find is those instituitions that have embracedboldwhite 250x300 Be Bold Colorado State University the business aspects of collegiate sports have remained consistently competitive and as a result, those institutions have thrived across the board.  As is the case with so many businesses in this day and age, older models of operation are no longer effective.  You must be constantly studying and modeling those in front to remain competitive.  If you choose the status quo you will fall behind to those on the move.

CSU was in a great position to leverage the momentum created by Sonny Lubick 10 years ago, electing to stay with the status quo allowed others (Utah, BYU, TCU) committed to growing their athletic businesses to surpass Colorado State.  As a result those schools have thrived and have access to opportunities that CSU does not.  With the momentum of a successful football program now gone, the task of playing catch up is daunting.  The quality of leadership it would take to turn the tide, and allow CSU to become relevant again simply would not be attracted to this situation, or would it?  Enter Jack Graham.

There just aren’t many people with the resume of success, experience, connections, resources and the love and loyalty to the institution that would take on this challenge.  The community is fortunate that someone who posesses all of these qualities, and has demonstrated the desire and energy to see it through has appeared on the scene.  The only thing needed is to insure that the planning process is detailed and that all due diligence is done.  Tony Frank has demonstrated excellent leadership to this point in his tenure and seems to be effectively managing that process to this point.

The committee Tony Frank has put in place is stocked with successful business people, and community leaders who are giving up tremendous amounts of their time to see that a wise recommendation is made.  Great effort is in process to complete feasibility studies and to listen to and address community concerns.  With the people in place and the work being done I trust that the right decision will be reached.

It is my hope that a new stadium will be on the horizon, if it is not it is my hope that those opposed will follow through with their interest in saving Hughes Stadium.  The status quo must change, and that means embracing and supporting the athletic programs along with the rest of the University.  Since Hughes Stadium was built, the growth of our community is not reflected in increased attendance at the football games.  We must “Be Bold,” and embrace success for CSU athletics as a symbol of pride for our great community going forward.

Colorado State comes into the tournament as the lower seed and a four point underdog to the Racers of Murray State.  Murray State has had a phenomenal year for a mid-major, and enters as a tournament darling in the eyes of most analysts.  On paper though, the match up is pretty equal.

Both teams sport RPI’s in the twenties, both teams lack size inside and both teams shoot the three ball well.  Neither team seems to have clear edge here.  So that brings us to the intangibles.Ramifications 300x117 CSU vs Murray State Preview

Murray State gets the advantage of playing in their home state.  While still a neutral court, Murray State will have the majority of the crowd on their side to give them a lift.  This is a huge advantage since the Rams have not shown well on the road durning the season.  Although, during the stretch run they have been very competitive with wins against Air Force and TCU in Vegas, and even leading San Diego State at the half in San Diego and in Vegas last Friday.

The Rams have the edge of playing a slightly more difficult schedule, and against slightly better comepetition night in and night out in the Mountain West conference.  Murray State would have been a top team in the Mountain West, but would have fallen victim to the same parity all the Mountain West teams experienced this year.  As it is, Murray State has won 30 games and has developed the identity as one of the nation’s elite teams.

Murray State holds an edge with a true go to player in Isaiah Canaan.  Last Friday the Rams defended well, but San Diego State made three point shots while guarded.  If Murray State shoots well while guarded, the Rams will have to win a shoot out.  Something they haven’t been able to do this season against teams like Southern Miss, Duke, Northern Iowa and against the big three in conference on the road.

San Diego State had the size and physical play to neutralize Pierce Hornung and Will Bell on the inside last Friday.  Murray State does not have the size and will have a difficult time preventing the Rams “little bigs” from being a factor.  The Rams must win the rebounding battle, and the points in the paint to have a chance for the upset.

March Madness Contest

The bottom line for the Rams is:  Was just getting there good enough?  That was the objective down the stretch, and the Rams wore themselves out accomplishing it.  The fatigue in the second half against San Diego State was apparent.  The majority of the team will be back next season for their final year.  Will they just enjoy the experience this year, knowing they’ll have another chance next season?  Can the play of the two seniors, Bell and Sabas inspire the team, knowing this is it for their careers?

I would say given the circumstances, if these teams played this game ten times Murray State would prevail in six of them.  If you’re rooting for CSU you just need the game Thursday to be one of the four the Rams would win.  I’m going to say that Pierce shows up big for the Rams on Thursday.  Murray State, having not experienced him before has no answer, and Pierce provides enough second chances for the Rams to pull out a close win.  Let’s hope March Madness rolls into Saturday for the Rams.

CSU Rams Basketball

CSU Basketball Decal CSU Rams Basketball

CSU Basketball Decal $3.99

With the regular season coming to an end the CSU Rams Basketball team is now preparing for the Mountain West Conference tournament.  I wanted to take a look back at the season preview to see if the Rams met pre-season expectations, and then talk about what their post season fate looks like at this point.

CSU Rams Basketball – Season Review

In the Colorado State Basketball preview I wrote:

“The benefit the Rams have this season is experience.  Last year when teams elevated their games down the stretch run, the Rams could not answer the bell.  This year’s team has now been through the battles and should they get themselves to the threshold again this season, will be better equipped to face the challenge of a post season run.”

Late last season UNLV came into Moby and outmanned the Rams with physical play, sending them into a tail spin.  This season UNLV came in for the final home game, intent on knocking the Rams off the bubble and making a statement themselves.  UNLV appeared to have the CSU Rams Basketball team outmanned again early in the game with their size and hot shooting.  This time though, the seasoned group of veteran Rams continued to battle, and with the help of a renewed Moby crowd were able to do what last years team could not.  Protect their home court and remain in the hunt for a NCAA tournament bid.

In the season preview I was also looking for a player to step up and become the team’s go to player.  Last year Franklin was the player early, then Ogide stepped up mid season.  Unfortunately neither could carry the Rams down the home stretch.  This season Eikmeier has been the leading scorer, but many players have stepped up with big individual performances to take the pressure off of Wes when the Rams have needed clutch play.

The good news for the Rams this year is after a mid-conference slump, Eikmeier seems to have found his shooting stroke again heading into the tournament.  Eikmeier neutralized an unconscious shooting performance by the Air Force to give the Rams their 19th win of the season.  The Rams now find themselves with the exact win total as last year’s squad, but with much more respect at the end of the season with signature wins over the conference’s big three.

CSU Rams Baketball – Post Season Hopes

So what do the Rams need to do to impress the selection committee at this point?  First lets look at what the CSU Rams Basketball team has going against them right now – human bias.  Since people ultimately choose whether you’re in or out, let’s look at what the Rams have to overcome:

  • What have you done for me lately?  The Rams have not been relevent in basketball for a long time.
  • If you’re not “West Coast” you have to be east of the Mississippi to get exposure and respect.  Colorado has been a basketball no-mans land in recent years.
  • CSU is a mid-major in a conference that is always fighting for national respect.
  • At least a “20″ or better in the win column.  The Rams need to recitfy this on Thursday.

So what does CSU have going for it right now?  [click to continue…]
